Our Immediate Past President Writes PDF Print E-mail

Our Immediate Past President WritesI didn’t get the opportunity in our Summer newsletter to thank everyone that had supported me in my Presidential year and I would like to do so now.You think  that when your year of office ends that you can sit back and relax. If only it was the case!

In May, I joined nearly 150 people from the insurance market in taking part in our fun run for Acorns Children’s Hospice. The run has raised nearly £10,300 to date and money is still coming in. I would like to thank everyone that took part for their outstanding efforts and, equally importantly, the people that supported them and Acorns through sponsorship of the runners.

In September, I organised the Charity Lunch which was held in the IMI Suite at the Birmingham  hippodrome. It raised £2,500 for our current President’s charity, the National Society for Epilepsy. Andrew Mitchell, the Shadow Minister for Birmingham gave an amusing and topical talk and answered a number of questions afterwards. It was an enjoyable afternoon and a significant amount of money was raised for this year’s charity.

Thank you all for your support last year and a very merry Christmas to you all.

Take Up The Challenge 2009The BII Charity Run on Saturday 9th May 2009, Sutton Park, Birmingham.

One of the biggest events in the BII calendar is the charity run, which after last year’s  success is, again, being held in Sutton Park, Birmingham on the 9th May 2009. It is at a perfect time to make it your New Year’s Resolution to get out running, get  fit and take part in the event.

Not only will you be helping yourself get fit, you will also be helping the work of The National Society for Epilepsy, this year’s  president’s chosen charity. Last year’s event raised over £10,000 for the Acorns Children’s Hospice and we hope that we can make the 2009 event even bigger and better.

There is the option to run either the 5k or the 10k route which will take place around a course within Sutton Park,  Birmingham’s largest park  overing 2,400 acres consisting of woodlands, heathlands and wetlands. There is the opportunity to run in a team, with your friends or colleagues, or enter as an individual. Prizes will be awarded for both the quickest team and the quickest individual.

Celebrating 100 Years Of Golf PDF Print E-mail

It is incredible to think that in 2009, the Birmingham Insurance Institute Golf Society will be the first Insurance Golf Society ever, to celebrate 100 years in  existence. This is a milestone for any society and to celebrate the occasion, the society is organizing a Centenary Golf Day on Thursday 16th July 2009.

The format for the day will be a Pairs Competition, followed by a Celebration Dinner, and an invitation is to be extended to all current and ex Society members, and  their guests. It should prove to be a great occasion. Further details will be available early in 2009 from our Secretary, Steve Good (Allianz Commercial) tel. no. 07801 617734 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
